Relationships Can Be Painful

Your life is largely defined by your relationships. Whether it’s with a manager or coworker, parent or child, new love or old flame. So when relationships are painful, they can affect your entire being.

Maybe you’ve experienced:

  • Challenges feeling liked or wanted
  • A pattern of broken-down relationships
  • Struggles to form healthy bonds that last
  • Frequent problems with friends or at work
  • Feeling irritable around others with no good explanation
  • A sense that you’re “different” from others in some fundamental way
  • A challenging relationship with yourself (lack of self-love and self-compassion)

In therapy-speak, these are symptoms of “interpersonal difficulties.” If you’re struggling to feel good in everyday relationships, reach out. I’d love to support you in understanding why that might be. Then, we can work together (at a pace you’re comfortable with) to change these patterns of behaviour for good.

Relationships Checklist

Let’s get more detailed. What types of relationships can I help you with?

Work Relationships

You can feel more at ease with coworkers, your manager, your employees (if applicable), and your role at your organization. End interpersonal conflicts, learn how to communicate assertively, and adopt healthy boundaries at work.

Parents and Family

They say nobody loves you like your family. It’s also true that nobody gets on your nerves like them, too. Come to individual therapy for support in asking for your needs to be met, communicating boundaries, and addressing long-standing family issues.

Your Children

You love them to death but they also drive you crazy. Whether your children are toddlers or full adults, therapy can help. Redraw healthy boundary lines with your children around money, how you will and won’t engage with them, and other issues important to your relationship with them.

Your Partner

If you’re having trouble with your partner, consider couples counseling. However, if you want to work on your side of the relationship, individual therapy is here for you. Get insights into your own upbringing, communication style, love language and more.

Relationship with Yourself

All your other relationships start with your relationship to yourself. You’ve heard this cliche before, and it’s a cliche for good reason. It’s true. By working on how you relate to and feel about yourself, all your other relationships will improve. How will more self-love, self-compassion, and self-respect help you?

This list is not limited to these relationships. If you have a relationship in mind that doesn’t fall into a neat category, please email me at [email protected]. I’d love to help you find relational peace.
